About the game
A museum that fits in your pocket.
Puzzle & Art combines a calm placement puzzle with real art history. It is being made as a small independent project in Germany.

An idea born in a museum
The idea for Puzzle & Art came to me during a museum visit. Standing before the Impressionists, I was moved by how much there was to discover up close: a brushstroke, a patch of light, colours that only come together when you step back. I could have stayed much longer.
Later, I thought: we spend so much time on our phones. How lovely it would be if a little of that time could belong to art. Puzzle & Art grew from that thought. It is my way of sharing some of the pleasure of looking closely.
I hope something stays with you after playing: a painting you have come to know a little better.
Real works, not motifs
Every painting in Puzzle & Art hangs, or once hung, in a museum collection. We use reproductions that the museum itself marks as public domain and check the specific file for every work.
The sketch and underpainting are modern interpretations made for the game, not historical studies. We show the original unchanged.
Texts with sources
After each work there is a short text: what you can see, how it was painted and what research says about it. Where interpretations are uncertain, we say so.
Each era gets a short introduction with places, dates and important people. We want to spark curiosity, not test you.
A growing collection
We start with works from twelve eras and expand the collection step by step. We make a point of including women painters who are missing from many overviews.
